Mr. Rajeev Singh Thakur, IAS, Additional Secretary (AS), Department for Promotion of Industry and Internal Trade (DPIIT), Government of India visited Footwear Design & Development Institute (FDDI), Chennai campus and & International Testing Center on 21st October, 2023.
On this occasion, Mr. Pankaj Kumar Sinha, Managing Director (MD), FDDI, the Centre In-charge, FDDI Chennai and the staff of the institute welcomed him.
AS, DPIIT visited the International Testing Center (ITC) of FDDI having Physical & Chemical Laboratory and saw various testing-cum-quality control services being provided by it.
He suggested that since the Government of India has issued Quality Control Order (QCOs) for the leather and footwear sector, it is an opportunity for the ITC to take benefit out of it. He further said that with its new advanced machines, ITC is equipped for improving and conducting testing & inspection so as to help in increasing production of quality footwear and establishing Indian brands in the global markets.
During his visit at the Chennai campus, he inspected Footwear and Fashion Design Department workshops, CoE building for Footwear Design equipped with modern state-of-art machineries, Design Studio, CAD-CAM lab, Digital Classroom, etc., and also reviewed the footwear and garments designed and developed by the students.
AS, DPIIT also felicitated Mr. Mohammed Rayyan - a final year B.Des Footwear Design & Production Batch student of FDDI Chennai campus who won 2nd Runner up prize in Children Shoe Category in the 12th International Footwear Design Competition conducted by Confederation of International Footwear Association during the 31st International Exhibition on Shoes and Leather Industry held in in Guangzhou, China.
AS, DPIIT also interacted with footwear industry representatives which paved way for fostering strong partnerships between the FDDI, Chennai campus and the footwear industry.
Mr. Pankaj Kumar Sinha, MD, FDDI presented a memento to Mr. Rajeev Singh Thakur AS, DPIIT which was designed and fabricated by the faculties using the CoE machineries having laser engraved image of Mr. Rajeev Singh Thakur in nubuck leather.
The AS, DPIIT interacted with the members of the faculty & staff members and gave valuable suggestions for the improvement of standards of teaching, research and collaboration programmes of the institute across all the campuses.
