E-workshop on ‘Design & Development Applications on Flat Knitted Footwear’ held at FDDI, Hyderabad

An e-workshop on ‘Design & Development Applications on Flat Knitted Footwear’ was held at Footwear Design & Development Institute (FDDI), Hyderabad campus on 17th December, 2021.

With the purpose of enhancing the technical knowledge and to bring awareness among the students about applications of flat knitted in performance footwear, FDDI School of Footwear Design & Production (FSFDP) of Hyderabad campus organized the e-workshop during which Mr. Mriitun Rajkumar, Director - M/S. I KNIIT, Tirupur, Tamil Nadu was the key speaker.

M/S. I-KNIIT is a leading manufacturer of finished knitted shoe uppers/ fabric with a production capacity of around 1200 pairs per day. The unit which is more than two decades old is equipped with ‘Advanced Swiss Knitting Technology’ and hold great expertise in knitting technology.

Through a presentation, Mr. Mirthun Raj explained about the new possibilities of knitted footwear on performance segment, and casual attire and briefed about design aspects, properties of yarn, design layout and so on. He also explained about four stitch texturing types, such as cable stitch, lifting stitch, slip & tuck stitch and weave stitch and gave demonstration on design layout and programming, flat knit machine utilized in upper making, fusing techniques and advanced- laser cutting technology.

The workshop was attended by design elective specialization undergraduate final year students (FDP 18’) and faculty members which was able to enhance the technical knowledge on the characteristics of human’s feet and wearability requirements on knitted footwear.
