FDDI participates in ‘India Skills Competition 2021 – Regionals Shoe & Garment Making’ as ‘Venue’ sponsor

Footwear Design & Development Institute (FDDI) participated in ‘India Skills Competition 2021 – Regionals Shoe & Garment Making’ as ‘Venue’ sponsor.

National Skill Development Corporation (NSDC) organized the competition in partnership with Sector Skill Councils, Industry Partners, Corporates and Academic Organizations.

India Skills 2021 provides a platform for skilled and talented Indian youngsters to showcase their abilities at regional and national level competitions in over 50 skills. The regional levels of the competitions are organized across four zones, culminating at the national competition. The winners of the India Skills competition get an opportunity to participate in the World Skills competition, known as the ‘Olympics of Skills’.

In the India Skills 2021 edition, Leather sector is represented as a demo trade (Leather is not part of World Skills 2021 edition). Under leather, two competition categories were held namely, Shoe Making and Garment Making.

For the leather sector, Leather Sector Skill Council (LSSC) invited applications from eligible participants to showcase their talent, win prizes and national recognition by hosting the event region wise at the selected venue.

The participants were assigned to make the final product as per the design given in both the categories - Shoe & Garment.

Mr. K. Murali, Director- CFTI, Chennai inaugurated the competition of South region during which Mr. M D Prince Joseph, FDDI, Chennai, Mr. Akshay Raman, CSIR- CLRI, Mr. Rakesh Sharma, CFTI and Ms. Bhanu Rekha, KCG College of Technology were the Jury members for Shoe Making competition.

The competition for South India ended on 7th December with the participants being motivated by the inspiring speeches of the Chief Guest, Ms. Innocent Divya, IAS, Guests of Honour, Mr. R. Selvam, IAS, Executive Director, Council for Leather Exports (CLE) and Mr. Dr. K. J Sreeram, Director (CLRI).

North India regional competition was held on 8th & 9th December, 2021 at FDDI, Noida. The occasion was graced by the presence of Mr. Arun Kumar Sinha, IAS, Managing Director (MD), FDDI, Col. A K Chandel, Senior Head, NSDC, Mr. Rajesh Rathnam, CEO, LSSC.

Ms. Shweta Verma, FDDI, Noida and Mr. Sanjay Kumar Bhatia, CFTI, Agra were the Jury members for Shoe Making whereas Ms. Sweta Kumari, FDDI, Noida and Ms. Archana Joshi, Incas International were the Jury members for Garment Making competition.

For East region competitions held on 10th December, 2021, Mr. Abhijit Ray & Mr. Manas Mandal from FDDI, Kolkata were the Jury members for Garment Making and Mr. Ramen Halder, FDDI, Kolkata and Mr. Arijit Chakraborty, GCLT were the Jury members for Shoe Making competition. The participants were awarded certificate in the presence of Mr. K Vimalathithan, LSSC and the Jury members.

All the participants were awarded certificates in recognition of their efforts to display their talent amongst competition at the respective regional level.

FDDI participated in ‘India Skills Competition 2021 – Regionals Shoe & Garment Making’ with an objective to provide a platform to young people to showcase their talent and turn their passion into a profession besides inspiring young professionals to join the leather sector for its development.
