Training Centre established by FDDI for Leather Goods making inaugurated in Bishnah, Jammu
Footwear Design & Development Institute (FDDI) has established a training center for Leather Goods making at Bishnah in Jammu district.
Keeping in line with Hon’ble Prime Minister’s clarion call ‘Vocal for Local’ and to build an ‘Atmanirbhar Bharat’, the training center established by FDDI was inaugurated on 31st July 2021 by the Chairman of Municipal Committee of Bishnah, Jammu Mr. Rajan Sharma.
The event also witnessed the gracious presence of Vice Chairman of Municipal Committee of Bishnah, Mr. Ramesh Lal, Counsellor of Bishnah, Mr. Kuldeep Singh & Mr. Ajay Nanda along with Mr. M.R Puri, Secretary, Sat. Guru Mandir Working Committee.
Jammu & Kashmir is known internationally for its style of embroidery which is found on various goods & craft products. The value addition on various goods & craft products using leather will be very beneficial in increasing the acceptability of these products and enhance its market value.
The objective behind establishing this training center is to teach the new design & techniques of making day to day products like ladies wallet, mobile case, ladies handbag, shopping bag, laptop bag, ladies belt, file folder, photo frame, table mats- woven, table lamp stand, jutti incorporating leather, textile & embroidery which will also demonstrate the legacy of Jammu & Kashmir.
Exploring opportunities for Jammu & Kashmir, the training workshop is being conducted by FDDI and is gratis for the youth of Bishnah which will provide sustainable livelihood.
Initially fifty participants are undergoing the training programme which commenced from 02nd August, 2021. The participants are being trained to make homemade articles with the use of leather and textile with embroidery work.
The training workshop is of one month duration in which the youth and native of Bishnah are taking keen interest that will help them to integrate with the new evolving product concepts.
