Exploring skilling opportunities, FDDI establishes Training Centre in Chak Majra village, Jammu for Leather Goods Making

Exploring skilling opportunities in Jammu & Kashmir, Footwear Design & Development Institute (FDDI) has established a Training Center for Leather Goods Making at Saini Sabha Kingriya, Dev Shanthan, Gram Chak Majra, Tehshil- Arnai in Jammu district.

On 15th November 2021, the Sarpanch of Chak Majra village, Mr. Dharmender Singh inaugurated & chaired the programme along with Panch, Mr. Vaijy Saini & President of Saini Sabha Kingriya, Mr. Omkar Singh & Mr. Rajesh Lachala.

Jammu & Kashmir is known internationally for its unique style of embroidery, which is found on various goods & craft products. The value addition on various goods & craft products using leather will be advantageous in increasing the acceptability of these products and enhance its market value.

The purpose of establishing this training center is to teach the new design & techniques of making day to day products like ladies wallet, mobile case, ladies handbag, shopping bag, laptop bag, ladies belt, file folder, photo frame, table mats- woven, table lamp stand, jutti incorporating leather, textile & embroidery which will also demonstrate the legacy of Jammu & Kashmir.

Currently 50 trainees are enrolled for the training workshop of one-month duration, which has commenced from 16th November 2021. It is free to cost for the youth of Chak Majra village, during which the enrolled candidates are provided training materials, refreshment etc. and after the successful completion of training session, FDDI will give stipend of Rs. 500/- (Five Hundred only) to the candidates.
