With the immense success of the first training center established by Footwear Design & Development Institute (FDDI) for Leather Goods making at Langei Village, Nongpok Sanjebam, Imphal East District, Manipur, FDDI has established another training center in Thoubal Leishangthem, District Thoubal, Manipur.
This center was inaugurated on 21st November, 2021. The program was graced by the presence of Mr. L Suresh Director, Bir Tikendrajit University, Oinam Goldflag & Thangjam Lokas both Social Entrepreneur. The program was presided by Ms. Kangabam Bijaya Chanu- President North East Women Entrepreneurs Association- Manipur Chapter.
The basic outcome of this workshop, as envisaged is to generate new product ideas using fusion of traditional crafts and leather, develop new prototypes and samples using the new product ideas and help the beneficiaries to integrate with the new evolving product concepts. The training will also help in making the unorganized footwear makers/artisans and migrant labours technological sound in respect of product development & product manufacturing and will help in building awareness for growing avenues of livelihood generation.
The trainee participants are being imparted training to make value-added products using Kauna grass, cane, bamboo etc., products with the use of leather as a value-added component to make day to day products like ladies handbags, shopping bags, ladies belts, photo frames, ladies wallet, mobile cases.
