On 09th July 2025, an insightful session on ‘Research and Development in Footwear for Better Health & Safety’ was organized by FDDI’s School of Footwear Design and Production (FDP).
This highly engaging online session was conducted by Dr. Arnab Chanda, a distinguished academician from IIT - Delhi. Dr. Chanda holds a PhD from the University of Alabama, USA, and has completed his Post-Doctoral research at the University of Pittsburgh, USA.
During the session, Dr. Arnab Chanda, briefed about the key factors contributing to slips and falls, highlighting how footwear design significantly influences safety. Emphasis was placed on outsole and bottom design for enhancing slip resistance and preventing falls, along with the role of insoles in promoting foot health. Special attention was given to challenges faced by diabetic patients, underlining the need for customized footwear solutions. The session also showcased cutting-edge developments in customized insoles, including advanced prototypes researched and developed at IIT Delhi.
With a strong emphasis on real-world applications and scientific rigor, the session provided a deeper understanding of how innovative footwear design can significantly improve user safety and health outcomes. The session was attended by more than 55 faculties across campuses.
