FDDI an “Institution of National Importance” (INI) as per FDDI Act, 2017 is a premier academic and training institution dedicated to the development and growth of the Footwear & Product, Leather Products, Retail and Fashion Merchandise and Fashion Design sectors. We have been bridging the skill gap in the industry as an INI by imparting quality education in the said areas.
FDDI is awarded CSR National Award 2022 in Education Excellence.
Testing centers at FDDI are well equipped with state of art testing equipment’s mostly from SATRA, UK and PFI Germany. The testing center offers complete range of testing including all types of footwear like - Safety footwear, Sports footwear, Footwear components, Leather, Leather products, Garment, Textile products etc.. We are also having expertise in the testing of Plastics, Rubbers and Automobile Interior parts. FDDI ITC is having Lab Accreditation for ISO 17025 from the Germany Accreditation council (DAkkS) & from SATRA UK.

Budding Entrepreneurial Venture
Ms. J Lavanya & Ms. Nandhini, both the students of B.Des Fashion Design of FDDI Chennai have refined their talents in diverged dimensions from what they have learned in the institute they are implementing and exploring in entrepreneurial venture.
Ms. Dhanushika Ramesh, student of FDDI Noida & Mr. Jeffry Jacob, student of FDDI Chennai met with a significant eye towards art on shoes & started their own startup - "Briller".
AWMUN III, Delegates Conference 2019

Two students of FDDI Hyderabad, Ms. Vanshika Malhotra & Ms. Virinda Maheshwari from B. Des (Fashion Design) represented India during Asia World Model United Nations (AWMUN) III conference which was held from 13th to 16th November 2019.
Consultancy (Domestic & International)
FDDI provides consultancy for development of quality systems at both domestic and international levels to the Footwear, Leather and allied industry.
Further to the successful completion of the Twinning Program (Phase-1) during 2011-14, FDDI (along with CLRI) had entered into another agreement of “Twinning Programme (Phase-2)” in May 2015 for two (02) years with the Ministry of Industry, Federal Democratic Republic of Ethiopia represented by Leather Industry Development Institute (LIDI), Ethiopia.
Under the New agreement of Twinning (Phase-2) the following program have been undertaken by FDDI in addition to the ongoing B.Sc. program with Addis Ababa Science & Technology University (AASTU) Addis Ababa. The B.Sc. program is now self-sustained at LIDI-AASTU:
- a. Establishment and conduct of training at Technical and Vocational Education & Training (TVET) Centers in Ethiopia.
- b. Industrial Consultancy in Footwear Technology.
- c. Long term & short term training program at FDDI, India.
The second phase of the Twinning -2 was further extended till December 2018 & additional activity pertaining to `Non Leather Sector- survey and preparation of Road map’ was allocated to FDDI.
FDDI has further enhanced the cooperation with the LIDI by signing `Extension of Twinning Agreement phase 2’ from 2020 till 2025. The extended phase focuses on the development of the consultancy services, non leather sector and augmenting higher learnings. The present phase is expected bring much needed development process for the institutional development.
Development & Operationalization of Online Web Portal of the IDLS Scheme
FDDI and CLRI are the two arms of DIPP working as Project Implementation Unit (PIU) for the Integrated Development of Leather Sector (IDLS) scheme for the period of 3 years (2017-20) for Tanneries and Product units respectively.
For timely execution of the Scheme, the Online web portal of IDLS Scheme has been unveiled on 28th March 2018 at FDDI, Noida. This portal provides an overall view of the Online Application System right from application submission till disbursement of funds & monitoring. The tools available in the Online Application system enables to completely automate the administration & processing of online repository of various applicant unit.
The new online application and tracking system of IDLS would simplify the process and cut down the time lag during implementation substantially.
Research & Development
FDDI has developed customized solutions for its various clients in the area of Footwear Technology.
Being an apex Institute for footwear, the Institute has always been a trendsetter and has made remarkable progress by developing methodologies in footwear research.
FDDI, under the ‘Make in India – 2.0’ (MII) Programme, has been mandated by the Department of Commerce to develop Standards for Footwear & Accessories for Armed Forces & Paramilitary Forces, through its International Testing Center (ITC). In this regard, as per the ‘Action Plan’, FDDI alongwith Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS) and Armed Forces/Paramilitary Forces is working for up-gradation & development of standards.
Under this, the Up-gradation/Development of Standards for Tactical Boot (High Ankle) with PU-Rubber Sole for Paramilitary Forces, Anti-Riot Shoes with PU-Rubber Sole for Paramilitary Forces (RAF), Shoes Derby Black with PU-Rubber Sole for State Police Department Full Rubber Knee/Ankle Boot for Paramilitary Forces & Light Weight, Anti-Skid, Anti Penetration Combat Boot for Indian Army have been carried–out by the Footwear Sectional Committee (CHD-19): Panel-1, of BIS.
Further, a New Standard (IS-17012:2018) - "High Ankle Tactical Boots with PU-Rubber Sole" has been published by BIS in September 2018 under MII-2.0.
