Footwear Design and Development Institute (FDDI) participated in the 34th India International Leather Fair (IILF-2019), which was held between 31st January to 3rd February 2019 at Chennai Trade Centre, Nandambakkam, Chennai.
The 34th IILF was inaugurated by Mr. Panneerselvam, Hon’ble Deputy Chief Minister, Tamil Nadu in the august presence of Mr. M.C.Sampath, Hon’ble Minister for Industries, Tamil Nadu, Mr. K. C. Karuppannan, Hon’ble Minister for Environment, Tamil Nadu, Mr. Deepak Kumar, IAS, Executive Director, India Trade Promotion Organization (ITPO), Mr. P.R. Aqeel Ahmed, Chairman, Council for Leather Exports (CLE), Mr. Anil Agarwal, IPS, Joint Secretary (JS), Department for Promotion of Industry and Internal Trade (DPIIT), Government of India Dr. Francesco Pensabebe, Italian Trade Commissioner, along with the captains of Indian Leather Industry graced the occasion.
Over 450 exhibitors from India and overseas countries which included participation from Australia, Bangladesh, Brazil, China, France, Germany, Italy, New Zealand, Portugal, Russia, Saudi Arabia, Spain, Sri Lanka, Switzerland, Taiwan, Thailand, The Netherlands, Turkey, UAE, and United Kingdom displayed their products.
The students of FDDI displayed a wide range of creations at its stall located at Convention Centre O9-A that included ladies and gents shoes, casual and formal footwear and sports shoes, fashion accessories, leather goods - travelware, belts, portfolios, handbags and wallets.
The fair had on display the entire range of products relating to leather industry from raw material to finished products and auxiliary products such as finished leather; shoes; shoe components – uppers, soles, heels, counters, lasts; leather garments, fashion accessories, leather goods – wallets, belts, gloves, portfolios, handbags; saddlery and harness; machinery and equipment and chemicals.
A stakeholders meeting with Mr. Anil Agarwal, IPS, JS, DPIIT was held on Special Package for leather & footwear industry under Sub-Scheme of Indian Footwear, Leather and Accessories Development Programme (IFLADP). It was an interactive session where various stakeholders briefed about the scheme and concerns of industry were taken up and clarified.
During the 34th IILF, a ‘Raw Material Sourcing Meet’ was also organized which was inaugurated by Mr. Anil Agarwal, IPS, JS, DPIIT.
During the fair, CLE organized the 4th edition of ‘Designers Fair’ in Hotel ITC Grand Chola, Chennai from February 1-3, 2019 which was inaugurated by Ms. Nidhi Mani Tripathi, JS, Department of Commerce (DoC) in which overseas Designers, and Designers and Institutions from India participated.
FDDI displayed a wide range of creations at its stall at Designer’s Fair. The stall was visited by Mrs. Revathi Roy, Chairperson, FDDI, Mr. Motilal Sethi, Member, Governing Council, FDDI, Mr. Arun Kumar Sinha, IAS, Managing Director (MD), FDDI, Mr. Anil Agrawal, IPS, JS (DPIIT) and Ms. Shruti Singh, IAS, Director (DPIIT).
The ‘Designers Fair’ provides an opportunity to the Indian manufacturers and exporters of leather products and footwear to meet popular overseas and Indian designers.
The services of the FDDI’s International Testing Centres (ITC) for supporting the footwear and leather industry, through a host of testing solutions and services with minimum possible time was also provided to the perspective visitors.
Information about the academic programmes of the FDDI which is having the status of ‘Institute of National Importance’ as per FDDI Act, 2017 located at different parts of the country with well-designed campuses at Noida, Fursatganj, Chennai, Kolkata, Rohtak, Chhindwara, Guna, Jodhpur Ankleshwar, Banur, Patna and Hyderabad was also provided to
