In the expansion spree, the newly constructed building of Footwear Design & Development Institute (FDDI) - an Institution of National Importance (INI) at Banur, Punjab campus was inaugurated on 22nd of February 2019 through video conferencing mode by the Hon’ble Commerce & Industry Minister (C&IM), Government of India (GoI), Mr. Suresh Prabhu.
The Hon'ble C&IM inaugurated the FDDI Banur campus through video conferencing from AAI Officers Institute, Old Area, Safdarjung Airport, New Delhi.
This is the first campus of FDDI to be inaugurated deploying the digital platform which is located at NH-7, Chandigarh-Patiala Highway, Near ITI Banur, Distt. SAS Nagar, Banur, Punjab.
The campus is having state-of-the-art facility for imparting quality education in the field of Footwear Technology & Management, Leather Goods & Accessories Design, Manufacturing and Retail Management. The Institute is also capable to assist those who want to set up their own industry and to help the organization to grow their business.
The campus has been established with an objective to train managers, designers, supervisors and retail professionals to meet the acute shortage of trained manpower in the Industry.
On this occasion, Mr. Vikas Verma, IRSME, Executive Director, FDDI and the staff & students were present at the Institute’s premise.
Situated on the National Highway connecting Chandigarh to the royal city of Patiala, the sprawling campus is spread across in more than seven acres of land encompassing beautifully carved structures for the administrative block, the workshop block, and auditorium as well the student residential wing and the staff residential block.
Strategically located near Mohali International airport, the campus is fully equipped with infrastructure and modern amenities like smart classrooms, mechanised footwear labs, CAD/CAM lab, computer labs in a fully Wi-Fi equipped campus.
The campus provides spacious, hygienic & secure hostel facility for about 250 students who come here from various parts of our country thereby creating an ecosystem to prepare future managers not only for the leading footwear companies, but also in emerging verticals of Fashion Designing, Leather Goods & Accessories besides in Retail Management.
While inaugurating the campus, the Hon'ble C&IM underlined the importance of exports and the role FDDI has been playing to support footwear exports in the global economic scenario. He further said, the campus would not only be a destination in the region for footwear sector, but would be inclined to serve the emergent needs of leather goods, fashion and retail sector too.
Delivering the ‘Welcome Address’, Mr. Vikas Verma, IRSME, Executive Director, FDDI said that this campus would be addressing to the manpower requirements of Punjab and Chandigarh region, but also to the catchment areas of Himachal Pradesh and Uttarakhand. Footwear companies present in Jalandhar, Panchkula, Baddi, Nalagarh, Paonta Sahib, Dehradun, Una and Kala Amb would stand benefitted with the presence of this campus.
At the occasion the students displayed their work of painting to the eminent audience comprising of the Additional Deputy Commissioner-Mohali, Mr. Sohi of Shivansh Academy Chandigarh, Principals and teachers of various higher secondary schools like Baby Convent, Guru Nanak Dev Public School.

FDDI, Banur campus has been established with a total budgetary outlay of Rs.100 Crores funded by Department for Promotion of Industry and Internal Trade (DPIIT), Ministry of Commerce and Industry, Government of India. The land has been provided by Punjab Government.
