Ms. Sushmita Phukan, a student of M.Des. Footwear Design CAD course of Footwear Design & Development Institute (FDDI) Noida campus has won the BATA India's First Design Challenge competition.
This competition was in design research between all the students from all the campuses of National Institute of Fashion Technology (NIFT) and FDDI for the development of design as per the specifications, under the mentorship of BATA Technical experts.
To launch this competition and to provide the design brief to the student of FDDI, Noida campus, the design team from Bata along with their Head Designer from Italy, Mr. Matteo Lambert visited the institute on Friday, 26 April 2019.
The information about the same was also circulated to the other campuses of FDDI located at Fursatganj, Chennai, Kolkata, Rohtak, Chhindwara, Guna, Jodhpur, Ankleshwar, Banur, Patna and Hyderabad.
Two students namely, Ms. Sushmita Phukan & Ms. Nikita Maurya both from M.Des. Footwear Design CAD course from FDDI, Noida campus along with other three NIFT students could make it to the semifinals and went to Kolkata, Batanagar for the transformation of concept to the product where Ms. Sushmita emerged as the winner.
The inspiration came to Ms. Sushmita as soon as she saw the challenge as she was already a great admirer of Thomas Bata and his journey to make Bata the present giant in footwear industry. So she thought of providing the same story of Bata forward through her shoe to the world as many are aware of Bata, but, not many know the epic journey that the company has gone through to sustain such a competitive market in its almost 125 years of existence.
This journey also provided her a great and inside experience of corporate sector as she was able to go herself to the production facility in Bata Nagar, Kolkata to develop her design within the specifications and price range and present it to the jury.
