On 17thJanuary 2018, the students of theFootwear Design & Development Institute(FDDI), Kolkata visited the Begampur Handloom cluster which is 55 kms away from Kolkata and one of the important clusters of Bengals traditional textile.
Underthe guidance of the highly experienced faculty of the FDDI, the students of Retail & Fashion Merchandising courses (M. Sc, B. Sc. & B. Des.) visited the cluster and got the insight of actual working of different textile Spinning, Weaving, Dyeing and Knitting processes.

The visit also provided an insight on how fiber converts into yarn, fabric and then dyeing, which is a useful practical aspect of the subject that cannot be visualized in classroom lectures.
The students also had a productive interaction with the entrepreneurs regarding the production process of this extraordinary craft, different marketing strategies and the raw material sourcing channels which will be very helpful to them in their career prospects.
The visit enriched the theoretical knowledge of the students through practical experiences and helped them learn how to create a product that consumers will buy.
