On 31st August 2019, a group of 35 students of B. Design, FDP 2018 batch alongwith 4 faculties of Footwear Design & Development Institute (FDDI), Fursatganj visited Robotic production plant i.e., Modern Coach Factory (MCF) located at Lalganj on Kanpur-Rae Bareli Road (85 km from Lucknow).
MCF was planned at a total cost of Rs. 3,192 Crore with annual production capacity of 1000 coaches.
MCF is certified to international standards for Quality Management, Environment Management, Occupational Health and Safety, Energy Management, Laboratory and Testing. It is also the first unit of Indian Railways to get International Railway Industries Standard (IRIS) certification (ISO 22163: 2017) for manufacture and design of rolling stock.
In May 2019, MCF also became the first factory (Production Unit/Workshop) of Indian Railways to get rating of Green Co. Platinum (CII Certified Green Company Platinum Rating).
Mr. Anuj Kumar Tiwari, Sr. Engineer, Technical Training Center, MCF briefed the students about the manufacturing process, sourcing, designing, automation techniques and about various safety standards followed in the plant.
The visit helped the students in understanding the automation process, line balancing, planning & control operations taking place in a large scale manufacturing unit.
