FDDI, India signs MoU with University of Northampton, UK

Footwear Design & Development Institute (FDDI), India has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with University of Northampton, United Kingdom on 7th February 2018.

On this occasion, Mr. Arun Kumar Sinha, IAS, Managing Director, FDDI, Mr. Adarsh Kumar, AFHQ CS and Mr. Vikas Singh, IRS, Executive Director from FDDI were present whereas Professor Nick Petford, Vice Chancellor of University of Northampton and Mr. Puneet Malhotra, Regional Director – South Asia from University of Northampton

Whereas FDDI, an ‘Institution of National Importance’ as per FDDI Act, 2017 is among one of the few Institutions (University of Northampton-UK, DE Montfort University-UK & Thomas Bata University-Zlin)   in the world providing higher education in the niche area of Footwear and Leather Products Design, Manufacturing and Management the University of Northampton, UK is divided into six schools: Arts; Science and Technology (formerly Applied Sciences); Education; Health; Business and Social Sciences which conducts courses on two campuses close to Northampton town centre namely, Avenue Campus & Park Campus.

In order to ensure international standards of education at FDDI and bring in global trends and technology in the sector, FDDI has entered into collaboration with University of Northampton, UK which is one of the few Universities to be ranked Gold in the Teaching Excellence Framework (TEF) and the first University to be named as a Changmaker Campus in 2012 in UK.

The MoU was signed by Mr. Arun Kumar Sinha, IAS, Managing Director, FDDI and Professor Nick Petford, Vice Chancellor of University of Northampton at the FDDI, Noida campus amidst the presence of the staff of FDDI and media persons.

The MoU has been signed for mutual cooperation and support in the area of education, research, students and faculty exchange as well as design and development of joint programs/projects/research and publications.

Before signing the MoU, Professor Nick and the Managing Director of FDDI had a long conversation where the curriculum development process of both the Institutions, methodologies of promoting training programs among the industry, programs and services offered by both the Institutions, shared experience of both the Institutions with regards to linkages with higher institutions, research institutions and the private sector were discussed in length.

Citing about the relevance & requirement of signing this MoU, Mr. Arun Kumar Sinha, IAS, Managing Director, FDDI said, “One of the key objective of FDDI is to provide world class education and facility in the niche area of Footwear and Products Design, Manufacturing and Management. Through such type of international cooperation and support we intend to bring in International technology and best practices in the sector and create a high end Human resource in the country that can excel efficiently across the globe.”

“We are also working on the modalities to offer joint collaborative Degree & Certificate programs that are internationally & nationally recognized,” added Mr. Sinha.

 

Strategic Alliance:

  • Exchange of students;
  • Exchange of faculty members;
  • Development of joint programs/projects/research and publications;
  • Undertake joint conferences;
  • Development of  Joint Degree and Certificate programs;
  • Exchange of educational and research materials, publications etc.

According to Professor Nick Petford, Vice Chancellor of University of Northampton, “We have prolonged expertise in education of Leather and Product Design and Manufacturing. Through this collaboration we intend to take up education in this niche area to the next level. The academic alliance and partnership with FDDI will create new avenues for the students and faculty in both the countries to explore the new horizon of learning, research and product innovation in cross cultural environment.”

There was an interactive session also where the students had an opportunity to clear their doubts and the unique features & benefits arising out of this MoU were briefed to them.

The MoU opens new vistas for cooperation between both the countries which will also paves way for greater cooperation meeting mutual needs.
