Industrial visit organized for FDDI, Rohtak students

To provide industrial exposure, the students of Footwear Design & Development Institute (FDDI), Rohtak were taken to M/s. Punjab Tannery (Euro Club) Ltd., M/s. Regal Leather Pvt. Ltd., M/s. Drish Shoes Leather Tannery Division and M/s. Sakay Overseas Footwear Unit, Jalandhar (Punjab).

This three days industrial visit was organized from 26 April to 28 April, 2018 to provide the students a better understanding of the industrial process taking place in the ‘Leather Manufacturing Unit (Tanning process)’ and ‘Women Leather Shoe Manufacturing Unit’ with latest technology.

Students being briefed about technicalities of leather tanning at M/s. Punjab Tannery (Euro Club) Ltd.

The company, M/s. Punjab Tannery (Euro Club) Ltd., is a supplier & manufacturer high quality leather for Woodland shoes and other articles of Woodland. They deals in hide and import high quality wet blue hide for Woodland from European countries.

The company, M/s. Regal Leather Pvt. Ltd., is also a supplier & manufacturer of high quality Leather for Woodland and other companies. They deal in hide for domestic industry only.

M/s. Drish Shoes (Tannery Division) Jalandhar (Punjab), are a supplier & manufacturer of high quality leather for Europe & China. They deal in buff hides and they are exporter of finished hides. They are also manufacturing hides for their own footwear unit established at Haryana.

M/s. Sakay Overseas Footwear Unit is manufacturing best quality of ‘Women Leather Shoe, Sandals and High boots’ for European and Asian countries. They are importing leather/ hides from Pakistan only.

Under the supervision and guidance of the staff of FDDI, the students of FDDI School of Footwear Design and Production (FSFD&P) were taken around the various processes in these manufacturing units where they were explained about the technicalities of different processes.

At M/s. Punjab Tannery (Euro Club) Ltd., M/s. Regal Leather Pvt. Ltd. and M/s. Drish Shoes Leather Tannery Division, the students witnessed the different processes that raw leather undergoes before it is finished and deemed fit for use by the industry.

The visit helped the students to acquire knowledge of leather processing and finishing & to identify various kinds of leather and the tools and techniques involved in making leather.

Similarly, at M/s. Sakay Overseas Footwear Unit the students were guided about the overall functionality of footwear manufacturing unit right from cutting till packaging stage.

The students were guided by the factory experts namely Mr. Ram Murthy (V.C), Mr. Ajay Sharma & Mr. Kalara (Production Head) who highlighted the concepts in Leather manufacturing from raw hide till finished leather. Students were also about the advance mechanical concepts of leather finishing. 

The visit also provided the students an opportunity to learn about the working atmosphere and various functional areas like manufacturing, quality control, supply chain logistics and other major operations of the company.
