Mr. Suresh Prabhu, Hon’ble Minister of Commerce & Industry, Government of India visits FDDI, Noida Campus

Mr. Suresh Prabhu, Hon’ble Minister of Commerce & Industry (C&IM), Government of India visited the Footwear Design & Development Institute (FDDI), Noida campus on October 07, 2018.

On this occasion, Mr. Arun Kumar Sinha, IAS, Managing Director, FDDI, Mr. Vikas Singh, IRS, Executive Director, FDDI and the staff & students of FDDI were present and welcomed him.

During his one hour stay, the Hon’ble C&IM visited the campus of the institute including the state-of-art facilities and infrastructure as established at School of Footwear Design & Production, School of Leather Goods & Accessories Design, School of Fashion Design, School of Retail and Fashion Merchandise.

The Managing Director of FDDI, Mr. Arun Kumar Sinha, IAS, briefed the Hon’ble C&IM about the teaching pedagogy and explained about the intricacies of individual process of shoe manufacturing and its quality parameters.

The Hon’ble C&IM was also briefed about the importance of the state-of-the-art-equipments and a demonstration was given in the Pilot Plant i.e., manufacturing workshops of footwear namely Cutting, Closing, Bottom Component and Lasting & Finishing.

The Hon’ble C&IM also visited the International Testing Center (ITC) of FDDI having Physical & Chemical Laboratory and saw various testing-cum-quality control services being provided by it.

The ITC provides services such as testing for leather, plastics, rubbers, textiles, footwear, artificial limbs, sports goods & tests for harmful substances.

The ITC of FDDI Noida is accredited by SATRA, UK, DAkkS, Germany & Bureau of Indian Standards.

The Hon’ble C&IM interacted with the members of the faculty and gave valuable suggestions for the improvement of standards of teaching, research and collaboration programmes of the Institute across all the campuses.

During the visit, the Hon’ble C&IM addressed the students. In his ‘Keynote Address’, the Hon’ble C&IM said, “The leather sector of the country, one of the traditional industries, faced many challenges. If the challenges are not addressed immediately, it would put the industry in existential crisis.”

He further said that, “To focus on technology upgradation in the leather sector through investments on plant and machinery and to focus on creating trained human resource by offering stipends and improve access to markets globally by building brand equity, Government of India has also been granted an unprecedented Rs. 2600/- Crore Leather package.

The Hon’ble C&IM congratulated students for studying at FDDI - an ‘Institution of National Importance’ (INI), and said that he foresees FDDI as the pioneer Institution in global arena in churning out highly trained Designers, technocrats and professionals joining the sector.

He also said that the reason of my coming to this Institute on holiday is to see the actual condition of the students and I am very optimistic about the role, which FDDI is playing in the development of the human resource for the footwear, leather & allied sector.

The Hon’ble C&IM also complemented the zeal and enthusiasm and team spirit of the Institute which gave a big moral boost to faculties, staff members & students to keep up their hard work.
