‘Industrial Visit’ for FDDI, Rohtak students at Grasim Bhiwani Textiles Ltd. (GBTL) & Elegant Spinning Mill

Footwear Design & Development Institute (FDDI), Rohtak organized an industrial visit for the Foundation Batch students at Grasim Bhiwani Textiles Ltd. (GBTL) & Elegant Spinning Mill situated at Bhiwani, Haryana on 03rd December 2018.

The mill erstwhile known as ‘Punjab Cotton Mills’ established in the year 1938, was taken over by Grasim Industries Ltd. in 1964 and has been recently acquired by Mumbai based Donear group. It has a strong presence in manufacturing of Polyester Viscose fabric and caters to the market under brands Grasim, Graviera and Grado. 

GBTL sells fabric both in the domestic as well as in the international market across geographies. The company has advance and latest manufacturing facilities comprising of fibre dyeing, yarn spinning, weaving, processing and folding.

Under the supervision of the highly experienced faculty of FDDI, seventy six students of FDDI got the opportunity to get insight regarding the internal working environment of a textile mill, as well as useful information related to the practical aspects of the spinning, weaving and dyeing which cannot be visualized in lectures.

The students were briefed about the functionality at different levels, the techniques of textile manufacturing and the various processes involved in yarn manufacturing, fabric manufacturing as well as finishing.

The students visited the manufacturing facility comprising of Fibre Dying, Yarn Spinning, Weaving, Processing and Folding with state-of-the-art machines, processes and professional environment.

 

Apart from getting hands-on technical knowledge about textile manufacturing, the industrial visit also gave an opportunity to the students to understand the nuances & realities of the shopfloor.

The students had the opportunity to watch the process of textile manufacturing right from fiber processing, spinning to packaging of finished suit lengths which will positively add value in their future careers as Textile Technologist, Textile Designer, Operation Managers, etc. in the field of Fashion Designing and as Merchandisers, Operation Managers and Buyers in the field of Retail Management.
