FDDI, Fursatganj organized a skill-development workshop on Hand Carving on Vegetable Tanned Leather on 20 February 2026. The workshop aimed to provide practical exposure to students and faculty members on traditional leather carving techniques and their commercial relevance in the footwear and leather goods industry.
The session was conducted by experienced artisans namely, Mr. Danish, Mr. Amit Gautam, and Mr. Faizal from SatKirti Agencies, Kanpur, who demonstrated how handcrafted detailing enhances the aesthetic value and market appeal of leather products.
The workshop featured a live demonstration covering selection and preparation of vegetable tanned leather, casing (moistening) techniques, use of carving tools such as swivel knives and bevelers, embossing and depth creation, and finishing and polishing methods. The session helped participants understand how traditional craftsmanship can significantly improve product design and marketability.
