Technical article written by Faculty FDDI, Fursatganj gets published in ‘Shuttles & Needles’


A technical article ‘Ikat Weaving with Rigid Heddle Loom’ written by Mr. Rajesh Sharma, Sr. Faculty/ HoD - FDDI School of Fashion Design (FSFD), Fursatganj has been published in the August 2021 issue of the monthly newsletter ‘Shuttles & Needles’ of Shuttle and Needles Studio, Chennai.

Mr. Rajesh has done Master degree in Fashion Design and M.A - English literature from MS University & Panjab University, Chandigarh and M.Phil in Fashion Design. With experience more than 22 years in Academics & Industry, has keen interest in design development - Apparel, Textiles, traditional crafts and graphics.

Ikat has a long history tracking back to centuries. Ikat carried traditions from generation to generation imbibing different cultures. Ikat (in Indonesian languages means "bind") is a dyeing technique originated from Indonesia used to create pattern textiles that uses resist dyeing practiced on the yarns prior to dyeing and weaving the fabric.

Briefing about this technical article, Mr. Sharma said “Technically, Ikat is a woven fabric prepared by yarn resist dyeing technique to create vivid surface design patterns. The surface design is visible on both sides of the fabric.”
